United Good Neighbors Grants $200,000 to Jefferson County Non Profits
Thanks to the generous donations of the UGN Community, We granted $200,000 in funding to 23 local nonprofits. The funding will support 46 programs that address critical health and human service needs in Jefferson County!
UGN is able to fund these programs thanks to generous donations from local businesses and community members. These community funded grants ensure that our community partners have the funds they need to deliver essential services to our community. Nikki Russell, Director of Community Engagement

Boiler Room Volunteers Thank UGN Donors!
One of the programs we funded this year, The Boiler Room Free Food Program, has benefited from UGN grants for the last three years. In 2015 the Boiler Room served more 15,000 free meals. This program benefits anyone who comes to the Boiler Room in need of a meal. Amy Howard, Executive Director for the Boiler Room shared the following story about a young man who has benefited from the free meals served:
This young man has eaten consistently at The Boiler Room since he was ten years old—nine years ago. He told me once that it was the only warm food he ate most weeks—unless he was visiting friends. The Boiler Room provided him with food security when his family was unable to do so; he always knew there would be something to eat here.
How UGN decide which programs to fund?
We make grant awards based on the recommendations of a small but diverse group

of community members who gather to review requests for funding and make funding recommendations to UGN staff and board. The committee includes representatives from the business community, schools, nonprofit leaders, Jefferson County Health Department and the UGN Board with UGN staff in an advisory role. Claudia Edmondson, UGN Board Member, credited this committee for a job well done.
It is not easy to make decisions about how much money should be granted when the need is so great. As a board we are very appreciative of the time these community members dedicate to this process.
